Julie tailors her classes to the questions and needs of beginners and to long time practitioners who seek the space to rejuvenate and restore their roots. Classes ebb and flow with continual breath while Julie interweaves instructions on alignment and inspirations from the yoga sutra. Students experience a sweaty, emotional cleansing while refining their technique, learning how to avoid repetitive-use injuries, identifying muscle groups essential for each pose and tuning into yoga's healing potential. The last fifteen minutes are spent deeply relaxing to a guided meditation and learning various pranayama breath practices to prepare the mind, body and spirit for creative living.
Julie comes from a life long involvement in the arts. She danced on Broadway, choreographed off-Broadway, and co-starred as an actress in over 30 films. She founded the Yoga and Drama Therapy programs at Passages, a residential rehab center in Malibu where she taught daily for two years. She taught yoga at Monte Nido, a residential treatment center for women recovering from anorexia and bulimia, along with her teacher Lauren Peterson. Julie taught at Malibu Yoga and the LA Unified School District's Pregnant Teens Program. Julie is extremely grateful to her early teachers, Max Strom, Lisa Walford and Maty Ezraty (Yoga Works Teachers' Training). She was deeply inspired by master classes with Gabriella Gubilaro, Gary Kraftsow, Richard Freeman and Ramanand Patel. She also completed advanced training in yoga therapy with Larry Payne, Ph.D. and Yoga Sutra courses with John Casey, Ph.D. Julie holds a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch and is a Marriage and Family Therapy intern.
