It’s that time of the year again where everywhere you look you see hearts. In the honor of St Valentine, heart from the Chinese medicine perspective makes a perfect subject for this month.  About 2000 years before Pope Gelasius declared February 14th St. Valentine’s Day, the Chinese had come up with a sophisticated system of energetic points on the body that were skillfully manipulated using acupuncture to treat various physical and emotional conditions of the heart.

Acupuncture is very effective in the prevention and the early stage treatment of many heart conditions in conjunction with conventional treatments and proper nutrition.  Acupuncture calms the sympathetic nervous system which affects the involuntary movements in the body such as the heart beat and blood pressure.  Acupuncture promotes blood circulation and the health of the blood thus affecting the overall cardiovascular health.

Additionally, acupuncture treats many emotional conditions such as anxiety, grief, sadness, stress, depression, insomnia, and worry.  Prolonged unresolved emotions often manifest in chronic heart conditions.  Take time out this Valentine’s Day to take care of your heart and be well!
